Desire to escape is feeling restricted by some kind of force and having a desire to remove this restriction from yourself emotionally. Once you have escaped this force, you will feel more free than you did before. Escaping can be a literal or metaphorical action, but in our books there are large and evident physical escapes with underlying themes of emotional escapes. On our individual blogs you can explore the themes we discovered in our books which will all revolve, of course, around a strong desire to escape.
As a group we decided to conquer representing this theme through 3 different novels as seen on the right under the featured novels tab. These were all novels that could satisfy our tastes and interests. When we first tried to define a desire to escape the obvious ideas came up such as escaping from prison, poverty, and war zones. Then, once we got past the obvious answers things such as escaping from abuse and the emotional effects of that, trying to leave a bad relationship, and escaping fame came up in our discussion.
Although we originally had intent to pick out very deep, meaningful books, we ended up with very straight forward ideas of escape with only underlying messages that pointed to emotional aspects of our broad theme. All of us chose books that were about physical escape that only hint at a deeper escape from one’s emotions. We believe this is because books about physical escapes are just more interesting and appeal to our personal reading preferences as they provide more exciting settings and story plots.
We hope that you enjoy our analysis of these excellent novels and appreciate us connecting this theme to current events and other literary works in order to further our understanding of the wide variety of applications this theme has to our lives.
